Artistic discoveries on European schoolyards

Kolibri Theatre as a partner of a EU-supported 4-years-project

On April 2nd 2009 the EU-commission declared the decision of the jury concerning the this year's grants of the programme Culture 2007. Chosen from a large number of applications Platform 11 + will be financed with 2 Mill Euro over 4 years. The total budget is 4.1 Mill Euro. (http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/culture/funding/2008/selection/selection_strand_11_2008_en.php)

Platform 11 + unites 12 theatres from 11 countries, each representing a high level of excellence and a special interest in the target group.

The leading organisation of that artistic network is Brageteatret in Drammen/Norway, which collaborates with the initiator of the project, Dirk Neldner (see www.magic-net.eu). The Hungarian partner is Kolibri Theatre. Local cultural institutions, universities and most of all schools will be active participants in the project (partner see also attachment).

On the initiative of the ASSITEJ of Argentina Platform 11 + will be globally continued in several countries of South-America.

In the focus of the project are adolescents, 11 -15 years old. For young people of that age there are only few cultural offerings available across Europe, even though during this life phase an engagement with art can be consequential for the formation of values, personality and worldview. Platform11+ strives to fill this gap with a long lasting effect and create maximal synergies between the partners.

The schoolyard is the starting point of all artistic activities because it is the ideal location for inspiration and research. The schoolyard as the centre of life experiences determines the identity of the target group and reflects conflicts in the greater society, as a multicultural and social microcosm of the different countries.

After four years of work, Platform11+ wants to present a many-layered (self-) portrait of a young European generation, whose presence at the beginning of the 21st century is reflected in more than 30 new plays, 50 interdisciplinary co-productions and theatre events, 40 pieces of art and new media and in a European database with theatre plays for the target group.

With numerous activities as co-productions, guest performances, exhibitions and first of the entire the First Annual encounter with more than 100 participants from whole Europe in September 2009 Platform 11 + will show up in Hungary.
